How to get to Sassone

Fiumicino and Ciampino airports serve the Rome's area. Ciampino is closer and it is good for flights in Europe. Soon I will be sending directions to arrive to Sassone.

From Roma Termini Train Station

By Train
From Stazioni Termini, take the train with "Albano L." (Albano Laziale) as the final destination. However, you will get off at "Sassone" which is the 4th stop after leaving Rome.

Purchase a ticket at one of the many newspaper stands in the station (approximate cost € 2,00). Ask for a '30 kilometer ticket' ('un biglietto da trenta kilometri'). Make sure you 'validate' the ticket at any of the yellow machines hanging on the pillars trackside BEFORE you board the Albano train. The train to "Albano L." sometimes starts from a track (#15 and #18) which does not come all the way into the station. So you will need to walk down one of the platforms to find the train. Just follow the signs.

When you get off the train at Sassone (There is no station, just a little walkway along side the track), wait for the train to leave and then walk down to the road crossing. Cross the tracks and walk along the wall. (Be careful of the oncoming traffic!) You will come to a gate for the "Istituto Il Carmelo". Ring the buzzer and someone will open the gate.

You can also take a bus from Roma Termini to Ciampino Airport (http://www.terravision.eu/rome_ciampino.html). When you arrive to Ciampino Airport follow the directions given below to arrive to Sassone.

From Fiumicino Airport

By train
"Non stop" trains to Roma Termini leave Fiumicino Airport from 6 am to 23 pm approximately every day, 7 days a week, the service leaves every half-hour in both directions, with journeys lasting 31 minutes.

The trains leave every hour at these times:
22 mins. and 52 mins. past the hour from Roma Termini to Fiumicino Airport; 05 mins. and 35 mins. past the hour from Fiumicino Airport to Roma Termini.

Ticket price is 11 euro. Tickets can be purchased at the railway station or in some of the newspaper kiosks. The ticket must be 'stamped' in one of the yellow machines BEFORE you board the train. These yellow machines can be found hanging on the wall as you start walking down the train platform and are marked with signs saying "Convalida bigletti/Ticket Stamping". The ride takes about 35 minutes.

By Taxi
The cost of a taxi from Fiumicino Airport to Sassone is about 70 euro. A word of caution about Roman cabs. Make sure you get a legitimate taxi. Do not accept services of anyone walking up to you in the airport or train station. Fake cabs that prey upon unsuspecting tourists are a big business in Rome! Get a cab only at an official cab stand.

From Ciampino Airport (Closer to Sassone)

The best way to arrive at "Istituto Il Carmelo" in Sassone from Ciampino Airport is by taxi. Taxis can be found in front of the main terminal. It is strongly recommended that you use only the white or yellow taxis with meters. Get a cab only at official cab stands! Fake cabs which prey upon unsuspecting tourists are a major industry in Rome! Be especially wary if someone offers his service inside the airport. The taxi fair to Sassone should be between 10 and 20 euros.

By Bus and train
You can also take the bus (or taxi) to the Ciampino train station which is the same line (Roma-Albano L.) that serves Sassone. You will need to take the train two stops (in the direction of Albano), to arrive at Sassone. Be sure to stamp your ticket BEFORE getting on the train at a yellow machine hanging on the wall at the train station.
